Tim Sklyarov

Tim Sklyarov is a graphic designer from New york America. The theme of these images are seeing New York from how Tim Sklyarov does on his road bike, it is mainly point of view photography. My first initial reaction to this work was that the way it made me feel that it was me on the bike riding through the city was amazing and a really good technique. I think the main focus he was aiming at was to get the audience to see the things from a different perspective and different angle instead of giving the image a meaning behind it. I think another theme these images were based on is Journeys as they make you feel as if you are on a Journey yourself.

The photographs are captured from the eye level of the photographer and are in a sort of wide angle view. I like the way he has included the handle bars in the shot also with his hands so its as if we are looking through his actual eyes rather than a camera. The background in these images are more or less the main subjects as that is what the main focus is on. Each photo has a different scene, some consist of busy streets with lights and others consist of more urban shots of new york. There are some cars around as well which gives a sense of danger also as such big vehicles feel at reaching distance, there is also a large fire truck. Throughout each image the sky also changes which indicates the time of day changing which relates back to the theme of Journeys. I admire the overall arrangement of the images and the techniques used, I like the way they give you an insight to seeing things from a different perspective is like.

I like these photographs were planned and spontaneous at the same time. Each image is random and the photographer cannot see through the camera or choose what to take pictures of. It is also planned because strapping a camera to his helmet indicates there was some planning involved to come out with such good photographs. The artist seems like he is trying to give the audience a feel of what it is like from his eyes and also have a feel of what the road bike life and life in new york city is like.

These images create an exciting effect and gives me an insight on what he sees when he is out on the road on his bike. He succeeded in drawing me in to the photographs and inspiring me in trying to experiment by captured some of my own point of view photographs and using the technique he has used. I especially admire the feeling he gives the audience from these images and how simple yet effective this technique is.
