Family House Party

These are photographs I captured at a family house party. My aim was to capture photographs of people having fun and a good time. The first image is a family portrait of some of my cousins and aunties, this photograph has a real meaning of family and love as they all live in different places but now have all come together as one in this photo. The second image is of my younger cousin smiling enjoying herself, the colours of her clothes really stand out and are bright which symbolises a child and her emotions as being happy. The third photograph is of my godmother and aunty dancing and having a good time like you would usually see at a party, this for me was a very good photograph as it shows them from a close range and makes the audience feel as if they were there too. The last image is also of two aunties dancing together enjoying themselves just like the previous image. The images I photographed hold good memories of that night and all relate to the theme of meetings and experiences.

Little Brothers 3rd Birthday Party

These are photographs that I captured at my younger brothers birthday party. These photographs relate to the theme of meetings and experiences as the family came together and also it was his first ever birthday party which was a new and exciting experience for him. My aim was to not so much capture portraits but to capture photographs of the people together smiling and having a good time. The first image is of a happy birthday ballon which represents birthdays and fun. The second photograph is of my younger brother blowing out his birthday candles, this is a very important part of a birthday and a moment of happiness. The next image is of my younger cousins playing pass the parcel which is a well known party game for children, I felt that this image showed the happiness and excitement in the children's facial expressions. The last image I captured is of my younger cousin in a spider man costume which really showed the excitement as being a child and also it was a new experience for him being able to be his favourite comic book character. The images are good memories of this experience and I feel captured the most important and exciting things.

Andy Potts

The illustrator that has inspired me is Andy Potts. He is an illustrator based in London but originates from the west midlands. Since he graduated from Portsmouth with a BA Hons degree in illustration he has took up a career in the image making, graphic design, animation and art direction including a 7 year stint as lead designer at Abbey Road Studios. Over the last then years the illustration has taken up most of his life and he has worked a large number of projects with a number of clients in advertising, book covers and work for magazines and newspapers.

Andy Potts uses hand made designs combined with digital designs which creates these interesting creative pieces. For my final outcomes I have I am going to be using hand made designs combined with digital designs which is linked to Andy Potts' work. I am going to be printing my designs onto T-shirts to create a urban look, I will also be creating a cyanotype and printing that onto a T-shirt also.

The images above are of Andy Potts' work which are my favourite pieces of work created by him and have inspired me in the ideas that I have come up with. My design is all to do with BMX riders and the bottom image is one of Andy Potts illustrations that is also many based on bikes which is linked to my ideas. In the top image he has used texturised effects and different colours which is also what I am going to achieve in my outcomes also.

Rankin Destroy Analysis

The Rankin destroy pictures are very creative in a simplistic way as the artist has just used a red pen and has scribbled on frizzy hair and a beard which also adds a humorous effect, its like the image has been destroyed hence the name. The first thought that came to my head when I saw this was drawing over peoples faces in a newspaper when bored browsing through one at home. I admire the comedy used as it says "Can we get him a haircut and a shave make him more marketable to the kids up north', it obvious to us that he needs a haircut as he has drawn it on himself but that makes the image funnier. In the image he looks a mess and is shouting which could represent mayhem and destruction. The stereotypical view of London from the people up north is quite negative as its known for crime and riots etc. The colour stands out well as its on a black and white background again going back to the point about scribbling on a newspaper when bored.

Technology Photographs

These are photographs I captured of someone using technology and highlights the experience of using these things as they are new to our society and have only come around over the last few years. The girl listening to music through headphones while represents the way music is a big influence on young people nowadays. Ipods also are a big influence and a big majority of young people have these.  I focused on the ipod and blurred her face on purpose to emphasise the importance of the ipod and to make it the main focus of the photograph.

The girls hands typing on the blackberry device also represent that the blackberry is a big influence on teenagers lives today. The image of the girl lying down talking on the phone while playing on the ipod symbolises how teenagers lives mainly evolve around technology nowadays and social networking. I made the image black and white to make the audience concentrate on the meaning of the image and the objects rather than the colours.

Photoshop Experiments

These are some photoshop experiments with photographs that I captured. The first is of a BMX rider who is performing a trick. I set my digital SLR camera to action mode and captured him in mid air. I then went on and edited the image on photoshop by adjusting the levels and saturation of the image to give it an interesting colourful effect.

The next image is of the same rider performing another stunt off the wall. Again I put my digital SLR onto action mode so the image would come out clear so you could the full action. I then edited the image in photoshop by using the marquee tool to go around the edges of him and the bike, I then inversed the image to select the background and made it black and white so it kept the main subject of the image in colour and made the rest black and white.

The last is a kind of collage of my younger brother. I gathered images I had taken from various places and angles which I then put them all onto one canvas and used the pinhole effect to make them all kind of transparent and overlap onto each other. This created a interesting piece and I am thinking of using maybe all three effects in my final piece.
