PATRICK ROCHON PAINTING ANALYSIS
These 2 light painting created by Patrick Rochor of which seem to be of Tokyo which is a vibrant Japanese city. The image is bright and colourful and has really come to life. The buildings in the background represent the city and nightlife, the Japanese writing represents the culture and it makes it obvious that the image was created to reflect the Tokyo life. There is two images of people in the middle, this could represent the people that originate from Tokyo and reflect that they are lively vibrant people. In the image on the left there is a women who seems to be naked lying down, Tokyo is known in some ways to have a lot of strip clubs and brothels so this may represent that theory. the harsh colours such as red really project out of the image which represents violence. the image on the left is of a man and three women also are shown with two of them being naked, this may represent what type of things go on in his night life in Tokyo. These images make me feel calm but lively at the same time, the use of bright lighting and colours on a dark background also with buildings works very well together and it portrays tokyo in a lively and exciting way.

PATRICK ROCHON
Patrick Ruchon is a light painter who has been painting with light since 1992. His work is about movement of light cumulating through time and space. He creates his art in complete darkness with the shutter open. He then moves lights on and around a subject with pen lazer lights, flashlights or anything that emits light. To complete this he sets the camera to a very slow shutter speed and the times can vary between 1 second to 30 minutes.

Light Research
Natural Light
: Natural light is light that is supplied by the sun or the moon.
Artificial Lighting
: Artificial light is any light that is not supplied by the sun and can be turned on and off such as lamps etc.
Soft lighting
: Soft light refers to light that tends to "wrap" around objects, casting shadows with soft edges. The softness of the light depends mostly on the following two factors: Distance, the closer the light source, the softer it becomes. Size of light source, the larger the source, and the softer it becomes.
Hard Lighting
: Lighting that creates sharp-edged shadows.
Back Lighting
: This phenomenon occurs when the lighting for the shot is directed at the camera from behind the subject, causing the figure in the foreground to appear in semi-darkness or as silhouettes, or highlighted; with backlighting, the subject is separated from the background.
Cross Lighting
: A lighting technique that places lighting near the camera and directs light toward the target object.
Side Lighting
: A lighting technique that places lighting perpendicular from the object and the camera.
